About Cobabe Canyon: Foxtrot, Sunrise, and Public Access
Published on September 23, 2026
Cobabe Canyon sits on the northeast side of Powder Mountain. The area offers a mix of blue and green named runs, along with open slopes and scenic tree skiing. The area has long been accessed via the Sunrise Poma, a surface lift installed in 1994 that helps skiers and riders reach the canyon from the Hidden Lake area.
As part of ongoing developments at Powder Mountain, the public Sunrise Poma is scheduled to be decommissioned following the 2026/27 winter season. Once Sunrise is removed, Cobabe Canyon will still remain accessible to the public as hike-to terrain.
A new private chairlift named Foxtrot is currently being constructed in Cobabe Canyon to serve the private residential community of Powder Haven, and improve connectivity among the private lift network.
Below is an explanation of what is changing, why, and what public resort guests can expect.
1. What is happening to Sunrise?
, the 2026/27 winter will be the final season for the Sunrise Poma. The lift will be removed in summer 2027 to make way for a Powder Haven neighborhood being developed directly in that footprint. Beginning with the 2027/28 season, public access to the terrain will transition from surface lift access to a short hike, with approximately 150 feet of vertical gain over a compact stretch of terrain.
2. Will the public still be able to ski Cobabe Canyon?
Yes, public access to Cobabe Canyon will continue following the removal of Sunrise. Beginning with the 2027/28 season, guests will reach this terrain by hiking rather than using the Sunrise surface lift.
While reaching Cobabe Canyon will require some additional effort, the terrain will remain open and accessible to guests who are up for the hike, continuing to offer an adventurous way to explore this part of Powder Mountain.
3. What is Foxtrot?
Foxtrot is a new private chairlift designed to improve connections between the Raintree and Primetime lift areas and Powder Haven’s future village core. The lift is planned to open for the 2026/27 season.
Foxtrot will be part of Powder Haven’s private lift network, serving as a vital connection to bring homeowners back to their properties. The lift itself will not be accessible with a public Powder Mountain Lift Ticket or Season Pass.
4. How does this fit into Powder Mountain’s long-term plan?
Powder Mountain’s uses real estate sales to help fund ski operations and investment in the public resort. That relationship is central to our approach to keeping Powder Mountain independent, uncrowded and publicly accessible.
Public resort investments include the , with a high-speed quad, and These projects are part of the previously announced, multiyear investment in the public mountain.
