Hike-to-Terrain
James Peak:
James Peak is the highest peak at Powder Mountain, towering a whopping 9,422', and offers some of the steepest and gnarliest black and double-black diamond terrain. With only 20-30 minutes of effort you will be rewarded with epic views and incredible turns. A touring setup is not required to access this terrain but can make the uphill portion go faster. Just take your skis or snowboard off and get to hiking on the designated boot-pack track.
If it's storming all week long, James Peak will often be closed due to avalanche danger. When ski patrol feels it is safe to complete mitigation, James Peak will be opened that day with untouched powder.
How to Get There:
Ride up the Lightning Ridge Lift and exit right to ride down to the base of the boot-pack or skin track. Lift ticket or season pass is required to access this terrain.
Baldy:
The hike up Baldy takes roughly 10 minutes and is almost solely boot packed due to it being so short. The black diamond runs off Baldy add to the length of your Powder Country run. The first sunny day after a storm you can find fresh tracks here! Once you make it to the road take off your gear and hop on the Powder Country/Woody's World Bus.
How to Get There:
Ride up the Sundown Lift and exit left from the lift. Take Powder Country gate 1 and ski straight down and hold your speed going up the hill ahead, which is Baldy. A touring setup is not needed!
Lefty's Canyon
Lefty's Canyon has been a chill ski n' skin area at Powder Mountain for a decade, and this will not change even though Village Lift is for residents only. A touring setup is required, as snow can get deep in here. Each lap takes approximately 10 - 15 minutes uphill, and you will be rewarded with fun and flowy low-angle runs.
How to Get There:
Once you ski down to the bottom of the Village lift, there will be a designated and marked uptrack that will lead you to the ridge line shared by Lefty's Canyon and Woody's World. You can either ski Lefty's runs repeatedly, or drop down into Woody's through the marked gate entry. Or after your last lap you can skin our on Ojeebus.
Lightning Ridge
Lightning Ridge has long been a favorite skinning route at Powder Mountain. For the 2024/25 season, it’s now lift-served terrain—but we’re keeping the option to hike up for those who love earning their turns. While a touring setup isn’t required, it’s highly recommended for an easier ascent.
How to Get There:
Take the Sundown lift to the top. Exit right and ski down to the old snowcat pickup location. Begin your ascent on the right-hand side of the cat track. The hike to the top terminal takes approximately 10–20 minutes, depending on where you decide to stop and drop in.
Important: Uphill travelers must stay on the far-right side of the cat track to avoid oncoming skiers.
