Lightning Ridge & Lift Upgrades: What They Mean for Powder Mountain Guests

Published on February 15, 2025

The past year introduced several major lift upgrades, including Lightning Ridge, Paradise Express, and Timberline. These new lifts provide guests with unprecedented access to terrain, faster laps, and smoother transitions between key zones. True to its ethos, Powder has focused on elevating the guest experience without increasing skier volume. These enhancements reaffirm our commitment as an uncrowded, terrain-driven resort.

Lightning Ridge: A Major Expansion for Experts

Last December, Powder Mountain debuted the Lightning Ridge Lift, a Skytrac fixed-grip quad that redefines access for advanced skiers. The lift serves 1,047 acres of expert-only terrain, 900 acres now lift-accessed, with an additional 147 hike-to acres.

Previously reachable only by snowcat or bootpack, this terrain now opens seamlessly to skiers directly from the Timberline base. The new lift not only unlocks Powder's legendary steeps but also improves flow across the mountain, making it easier for expert skiers to link laps and explore new lines.

Paradise: Faster Access to Classic Terrain

The Paradise Lift, a longtime favorite, also received a major recent upgrade with the installation of a new Doppelmayr high-speed detachable quad. Opened on January 5, 2025, the upgraded lift cuts ride time from 16 minutes to just seven.

The Paradise Express upgrade means fewer bottlenecks at the base, quicker access to beloved runs, and more time where it matters most: on the snow. It’s a big win for powder chasers and families alike, improving overall skier circulation without sacrificing the tranquil Powder Mountain experience.

Timberline: Rounding Out the Network

The revamped Timberline Lift, also opened last December, is now a Skytrac fixed-grip quad that replaced one of Utah's oldest operating chairs. The new lift increases uphill capacity while enhancing ride comfort and reliability.

Timberline Lift plays a unique role in Powder’s cultural fabric as part of an open-air art installation by artist EJ Hill, blending lift infrastructure with immersive visual storytelling.

Why It Matters: Enhancing the Guest Experience

Powder Mountain’s lift upgrades aren’t just about faster rides, they’re about better skiing. By transforming hard-to-reach areas into accessible terrain, reducing lift lines, and strengthening connectivity, the resort ensures that guests spend more time exploring and less time waiting.

These upgrades are a physical investment in Powder Mountain’s promise: to preserve space, snow, and serenity, not invite saturation.
