powder mountain

summer safari 4x4 tours

Guided tours in oversized off-road vehicles take guests to spectacular sites over the resort’s 10,000+ acres that would otherwise be inaccessible to the public by vehicle.

Each three-hour tour will be tailored to meet the desires of the individual guests and to take advantage of the changing scenery, wildlife, and weather. Typical areas to be explored include Lightning Ridge, Cobabe Canyon and Three Mile Trail to Hidden Lake. The overlook into Ogden Valley from the south end of the property should not be missed. This view includes all of Ogden Valley, the Great Salt Lake, Uintah Mountains, Wyoming, Idaho and Nevada.

Powder Mountain mechanics, Roger Arave and Evan Miller, design and build off-road vehicles that can climb the steep and rocky terrain that serves as ski slopes during the winter months. 42 inch tires, a full roll cage and a canvas top in case of inclement weather provide a comfortable and safe excursion for guests. They affectionately named the first vehicle “Powzilla.” A second rock crawler named “Ski-Rex” will be ready by July.

Although Powzilla was not christened until late August last year, guests from 3 to 90 years old climbed aboard for an adventure of their life. Late afternoon and early evening excursions proved most popular since the probability of viewing wildlife in their native habitat increases at this time of day.
